Living Prepared is about how I Live and Prepare to be as independent as possible and not a dependent government subject. It’s about having a comfortable and familiar lifestyle during what could be a very long aftermath of a disaster event. I live in hurricane country and every year I prepare to face these potential disasters and their aftermaths or sometimes even bugging out. For this next project I wanted to have a more portable but long running lamp. I am a big fan of today’s battery powered power tools and like most people I own some, one of which is the 18 volt DeWalt drill. This made a light go off in my sometimes feeble mind that here is a perfect battery that is only used when I use the drill. I need to find a way to get more use out of these batteries such as to power an LED light. These tool batteries are high quality, have lots of power and they have fast chargers so all I have to do is make use of them for a near perfect power source for LED lighting. I plan to recharge the batteries using the DeWalt charger and will power the charger several ways; one way is using a small power inverter and the lighter socket in the car to power the inverter and plug the DeWalt charger into it. Another is my small solar system that can power the inverter and lastly when the generator is running to keep the refrigerator cold it can charge the battery at the same time.
